Cortinarius (Myxacium) pseudosalor Lange Lilastieliger Schleimfuss syn. C. mucifluoides (Henry) Henry Cap 3–8cm across, conico-convex then expanded and often umbonate, ochraceous buff to ochre-brown, tinged tawny at centre, margin smooth or slightly grooved, viscid when moist drying shiny. Stem 80–100 x 10–20mm, white covered in violaceous slimy veil below cortinal zone. Flesh whitish to pallid tinged yellowish especially below cap cuticle. Taste mild, smell none. Gills clay then ochraceous-rust. Cheilocystidia thin-walled, hyaline, balloon-shaped, roughened, 12–14 x 7–9µ. Habitat deciduous woods, especially beech and also with conifers. Season autumn. Common. Edibility unknown –avoid, many Cortinarius contain toxins –avoid, many Cortinarius contain toxins. Distribution, America and Europe.
